WHY WE PLAY WHAT WE PLAY
I thought I’d take this opportunity to tell you a little about the music we play on 99.9 Live FM.
Firstly, for the majority of the time, we are a CHR radio station. CHR is actually a new term for Top 40. For mainstream stations, it stands for Contemporary Hit Radio, but for Live FM, it means Christian Hit Radio. Obviously … that means we play HITS!!
What makes it a hit on Live FM? Well, first we listen for the message in the song. Then for a certain style and tempo. Between Midnight and 7pm, we try not to play overall slow tempo songs … that would mean we were Adult Contemporary. Neither do we play Hard Rock. Live FM is right in the middle, playing consistent Pop/Rock. We also look for catchy songs - with a good "hook" - those songs that you just can’t get out of your head.!!!
Of course, we also try to cater to as many tastes as possible. Between 7pm and 9.30pm each weekday, we are deliberately targeting teenagers and young adults. At other times, our programming may feature such styles as Country, Blues, Praise & Worship, or any other such style as determined by the evolving needs of listeners.
While all of our music has a Christian/Faith based message, musically we sound a lot like other Top 40 stations, but you won’t hear "offensive" radio here! We’re different from every other station in the our market, because we always play great music, and appeal, primarily, to youth, young adults, generation X'ers (such as myself) and baby boomers."
