A Boy Named Josh

I met a remarkable little boy recently. His name is Josh.

We were broadcasting from a local state school during one of Live FM's School Excursions.  A large crowd of students and teachers were gathered around me.

We were laughing and having fun… when I noticed Josh pushing his way towards me, dragging his Mum with him.

Josh stood beside me and said nothing.  He just stared at the gear in front of him, tentatively reaching out to touch it.  I asked him a few questions – “what’s your name?”, “what grade are you in?” – and got no response.

That’s when his Mum told me that Josh was seriously autistic.  So serious that he spends most of his day in the school’s Special Education unit.

So Josh and I had a different type of conversation.  I asked him some “yes or no” questions, and he nodded or shook his head, never taking his eyes off the gear in front of him.  When Josh and his mum were about to leave, he let me shake his hand.

That’s when Josh’s Mum started to get emotional, because she was seeing something happen to her son that she had NEVER seen before.

She was amazed that her little boy had even wanted to come across to where we were, that he was now standing in the very centre of “all these people”, and that he had allowed me to communicate with him and shake his hand.

And I was amazed that God would use me and Live FM to reach out to Josh and his Mum.

The Bully

I'd like to tell you about something that happened to me recently at work. As there often is in many workplaces we have a bully. Over time I have been ridiculed about everything from the type of car I drive to my body shape including an attempt at what I consider to be physical abuse.

At Easter, it came up that we have a Christian radio station here in Townsville, and that I listen to it. She said she would check it out, probably to get more ammunition to try and make my life a misery.

The next time I saw her, she told me that she had in fact tuned in to Live FM. She mentioned a couple of things, so I knew it was true. I asked her what she thought of the music and she said it was like listening to Zinc except for all the hallelujahs. I chuckled to myself.  I think it’s hard for her to be too nice.

Later, she told me that her husband (whose brother is a Christian) had been so impressed with the station that she was now waking up to it every morning, as they have a young family he feels that it is much better to have on around the children.

I was so happy, I have been a financial supporter of Live FM for more than a decade and have seen, or should I say, heard a lot of changes in that time, but one thing that has never changed is God's awesome ability to reach people where they are through this important ministry.

Live FM is Lame

I used to think Live FM was a “lame” and “cheap” radio station, despite me labeling myself a Christian.

God challenged me on my attitude one day, and told me it’s because people like me don’t get behind it. I’m ashamed of how I thought, and now think the COMPLETE opposite.

I don’t listen to it (99.9 Live FM) for prizes and giveaways, and becoming a ministry partner is the LEAST I can do to repay Live FM for delivering world renowned preachers right to my car, which feeds my faith, and strengthens my daily walk with God.

God has blessed me with Live FM. May this (monthly ministry partnership) also be, in some small way, a blessing to you.
